Vienna Philharmonic 1 oz
Austria · gold · 1989-today
Overview
The Vienna Philharmonic is the bullion coin of the Austrian Mint, struck since 1989 as a tribute to the city's philharmonic orchestra. The obverse shows the great organ of the Golden Hall of the Musikverein; the reverse gathers instruments of the orchestra: cello, violins, harp, bassoon and Vienna horn. Of 999.9 ‰ fineness, it weighs 31.103 g, one troy ounce of fine gold, and stands out by its broad diameter of 37 mm for a thickness of only 2 mm: it is the largest of the common one-ounce coins, which makes it easy to recognise. Denominated in schillings at first, it has been denominated in euros since the adoption of the European currency. As pure gold is soft, it is preferably kept in its capsule. The series also exists in silver and in platinum. At Gold & Silver Company in Dottignies, every Philharmonic is weighed and appraised in front of the person; the assay in the agency is what counts.

How to check it
Indicative check: weigh the coin to the centigram and measure its diameter with callipers; a deviation of more than 0.1 g or 0.2 mm from the reference values warrants an examination in the agency. The assay in the agency is what counts.
At Gold & Silver Company
