Silver Maple Leaf 1 oz
Canada · silver · 1988-today
Overview
The Silver Maple Leaf is the silver bullion coin of the Royal Canadian Mint, struck since 1988 on the pattern of its gold counterpart: the effigy of the British sovereign on the obverse, the maple leaf on the reverse. Of 999.9 ‰ fineness, it is among the purest silver coins on the market. It weighs 31.11 g for 31.103 g of fine silver, one troy ounce, and measures 38 mm across and 3.29 mm thick. Pure silver reacts to air and humidity: a haze or small milky spots may appear over time, without any effect on the metal content; the original tube or capsule limits such marks. Recent strikes carry radial lines and a small micro-engraved leaf. At Gold & Silver Company in Dottignies, every Silver Maple Leaf is weighed and appraised in front of the person, like the gold coins; the assay in the agency is what counts.

How to check it
Indicative check: weigh the coin to the centigram and measure its diameter with callipers; a deviation of more than 0.1 g or 0.2 mm from the reference values warrants an examination in the agency. The assay in the agency is what counts.
At Gold & Silver Company
