Austrian 100 Corona
Austria · gold · 1908-1915 (refrappes 1915)
Overview
The Austrian 100 Corona gold coin was created in 1908, the jubilee year of Franz Joseph I's reign, and struck until 1915; the Austrian Mint has since produced official restrikes dated 1915. The obverse carries the laureate head of the emperor, the reverse the double-headed imperial eagle; the jubilee type shows on its reverse a female figure reclining on clouds. It is a large coin of 33.8753 g of 900 ‰ gold, that is 30.488 g of fine gold, with a diameter of 37 mm, a format close to that of the modern ounces. It belongs to a family of which the 20 Corona, 6.7751 g for 6.098 g of fine gold and 21 mm across, is the most common module. The restrikes, numerous and perfectly regular, trade by their fine gold weight. At Gold & Silver Company in Dottignies, every 100 Corona is weighed and appraised in front of the person; the assay in the agency is what counts.
The 20 Corona weighs 6.7751 g (6.098 g fine, Ø 21 mm).

Indicative check: weigh the coin to the centigram and measure its diameter with callipers; a deviation of more than 0.1 g or 0.2 mm from the reference values warrants an examination in the agency. The assay in the agency is what counts.
